CEO - Simon Angus and Company History

After moving to Canada from England in 2004, Simon bought a Catalina 27 in Kitimat, BC, and enjoyed sailing in the Douglas Channel with his young family. A career move to Alberta paused his sailing career until he discovered the joys of chartering sailboats in the Caribbean.

He set his dreams on creating his own all-electric and off-grid-capable sailboat. Along the way, every challenged Simon faced, his engineering background enabled him to overcome these obstacles, each one a new opportunity. Before he knew it, his boat featured some outstanding self-fabricated parts. Overcoming serious industry challenges.

A boat that could be shipped anywhere in the world, sailed on with his family, and returned to Vancouver for summer cruising — and would be entirely electrically sustainable. When it came to the solar, after all his hard work, Simon wasn't prepared to make the sacrifices other boat manufactuers are forced to make. His frustrations in the current solar options led Simon to expertly design marine solar panels. Ultra durable, lightweight, flexible and sleek. This was the beginning of Open Waters Solar. A revolutionary marine solar company.
